WHEREAS, Urban chickens are a source of food, enriched compost, insect control and educational opportunities; and

WHEREAS no roosters are proposed to be allowed to be kept in the Durham City limits; and

WHEREAS backyard chickens provide fresh organic eggs which are healthier or you; and

WHEREAS the ability to get fresh eggs from your backyard reduces driving to and from the store as well as reducing the need for trucking of eggs to stores; and

WHEREAS cities all over America allow backyard hens, including Charlotte, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and others:

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Durham InterNeighborhood Council does encourage the Durham City Council to support TC-0800006 - Female Chickens.

Resolution failed on 2/24/2009 - resolution made moot since the City Council passed amendments to the UDO allowing urban chinkens prior to final consideration of this resolution by the INC.  No INC vote was taken.
