Administration and announcements

Johnea Kelley called the meeting to order at 7:08PM.

John Dagenhart made a motions to approve the minutes which was seconded by Erick Larson. The minutes were approved.

Fred Mowry reported a checking account balance of $720.88 with one outstanding bill for $200. The savings account balance containing our grant money stands at $3131.33.

Jennifer Albright made a motion to forward the $175 deposit to the Downtown Armory for this year's upcoming Neighborhood Summit to be held in September during Centerfest.

PROGRAM

Excellent programs were presented by Bob Calhoun of Habitat for Humanity, Lorisa Seibel of the Campaign for Decent Housing and Kevin McDonald of TROSA.

Highlights follow:

Habitat for Humanity

Based on the principles of 1. Partnership; 2. No profit; & 3. zero% mortgages

111 homes occupied today in South Central, West End, Walltown and Northeast areas of Durham

Qualifications for family of 4 = 60% median income or $37,000

Campaign for Decent Housing

Is sponsored by Durham Affordable Housing Coalition

Is in partnership with El Centro Hispano

Main accomplishments are legislative (Life Court)

Goal - to affect repairs on all 4000 substandard homes by 2003

2 year residential program with 281 residents currently

1 year continuing care

Empowerment process involves 1. work ethic; 2. education and 3. learning to communicate

Current budget $6 million with 3.4 mil actually earned

Graduate success rate is now 39%
